Serv Dragster takes WA Grand Final and the Modified Championship
A field of 27, mixed with the State’s best dragsters and altereds, gathered for the Veem Engineering Modified category at the WA Grand Final event for season 2009/10. With as many as five drivers still capable of taking out the championship, there was plenty of pressure and excitement in the lead-up to the event.
In what has at times been a rollercoaster season, the Serv Dragster was prepared for the fight to collect the WA number 1 spot. The Serv Dragster was number three, with a Personal Best (PB) 7.68, after two qualifying attempts.
After Round Two of Eliminations, and the exit of three of the five championship contenders, the title race was down to Simon Lekias in the Serv Dragster and Kim Nordahl in his front engine dragster. In progressing to the Semi-Finals, Lekias had the bye through to the final and Nordahl would face Brad Baker’s dragster to determine the other finalist. With the Serv Dragster waiting in the tunnel, the race between Nordahl and Baker was a cracker, with the win light coming on in Baker’s lane. It was at this point that Lekias could not be beaten for the championship, and while there was great excitement within the crew, there was still a focus on taking out the WA Grand Finals.
The final pitted two Osborne Motors powered dragsters against one another, with the Serv Dragster taking the win light after a Baker red-light; however a 7.64 on a 7.64 dial-in showed that the Serv Dragster was right on its game. “What a way to win the championship, to go under and over our PB’s (7.64 @ 174mph) and to win the event is just unbelievable; a huge congratulations to Brad for making his first final of the year and congratulations to Kim, Andrew Katavatis, Kirsty Cunningham and Krystal Ecclestone for what was an incredible season”, Lekias remarked. “To have the championship go down to the wire like that certainly was exciting, Modified is a tough bracket with some outstanding racers, and that will only strengthen with some old and new faces to return next year”.
“There are so many people that have been part of this achievement; Serv Auto Group, Osborne Motors, Kendall Motor Oil, Awesam Paintworks, Allan Farrer, Chris Dimoff, Allfast Torque Convertors, my wife and crew; thank you all for contributing to the Serv Dragster being the 2009/10 WA Modified Champion”, concluded Lekias.
The Serv Dragster will now be prepared for the long haul to the Nitro Championships at Sydney Dragway in May, before heading north to the season ending Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway in June.

In what was a great way to celebrate Christmas late, Osborne Motors Racing and their Serv Dragster picked up the winner’s trophy at the Nitro Funny Car event held at the Perth Motorplex on Boxing Day, 26 December 2009.
At the conclusion of qualifying, the Serv Dragster was number two, with a Personal Best (PB) 7.83, in the 14-car Veem Engineering Modified field.
After progressing through eliminations with consistent laps, the Serv Dragster was paired against former National Super Sedan Champion Shane Wynd, also in a dragster, for the final. A 0.009 reaction time and 7.88 on a 7.82 dial-in was enough to collect the win light, with Wynd having mechanical issues on the start line. Team Owner and driver Simon Lekias, was excited at the performance of the Serv Dragster. “To run PB’s for both elapsed time and speed (170mph) so far this season, grab a runner-up trophy at the 38th Goldenstates, and now a win at the Nitro Funny Car event is reward for some hard work and persistence”, Simon remarked.
The win has given Simon, and the Serv Dragster, a boost in the local track championship, moving him to the top of the point standings close to the mid-way point of the season. “We have given ourselves every opportunity to win the championship; however, with some big events to come and the bracket becoming more and more competitive, we won’t be letting our guard down”.
The Serv Dragster will now be prepared for the next round of the Modified track championship to be held on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th January 2010 when round three of the Top Fuel Championship hits the Perth Motorplex.

Castrol Edge Winternationals the next stop for
Serv Auto Group Dragster
Following the completion of the Perth Motorplex 2008/09 season, the Osborne Motors Racing team have shifted their focus to the large task of transporting the Serv Auto GroupDragster across the country for the Castrol Edge Winternationals in June.
In what can only be described as a rollercoaster season, with a promising start to the local Modified Championship, to the Serv Auto GroupDragster suffering some component failures, before regaining some consistency in the final two meetings, Osborne Motors Racing is looking forward to competing in the largest Drag Racing event outside of North America.
The final two meetings of the season presented the team with some friendly conditions which saw the Serv Auto GroupDragster consistently qualified in the top half of the field; however two first round exits denied the team a successful end to the year. “I just look forward to every lap especially when the weather conditions are playing the game, it would have been nice to go a few rounds, but that’s racing”, remarked a positive team owner, Simon Lekias.
Under no illusions as to the scale of the task at hand to go to the Winternationals and win rounds, the Osborne Motors Racing team is excited about the prospect of putting the Serv Auto GroupDragster through its paces against what will be the biggest Modified field of the season. “We aren’t going all that way just to make up numbers, the biggest expectations of this team are held by me and while we are looking to enjoy some Queensland hospitality, we’re also hoping to be hanging around late on the Sunday”, claimed Simon.
Osborne Motors Racing would like to thank Paul, Dave and Simon from the Serv Auto Group for their continued support throughout season 2008/09.

Serv Auto Group Dragster looking
for strong result at 38th Westernationals
Following a run of mechanical issues and early round exits the Osborne Motors Racing team and their Serv Auto GroupDragster are more determined than ever to have a successful 38th Annual Westernationals at the Perth Motorplex.
After the positive start to the season with some strong showings at the early events, things started to catch up with OMR at the Boxing Day Nitro Funny Cars Event. The Serv Auto Group Dragster failed to fire in the staging lanes while getting ready to run in the second round of eliminations, which was attributed to a fuel pump failure. The next meeting was the USA Jets on January 10, and once again the Serv Auto GroupDragster was neither a happy nor a willing participant, with the Torque Converter being completely smashed early in qualifying. Not wanting to miss out on important points in the track championship the team fronted for the first round, where they were obviously no match for the consistent Sean ‘Bluey’ McDonald.
The Top Alcohol round arrived with the team eagerly waiting to get the Serv Auto GroupDragster back on track after replacing some major components. However the weather conditions had some other ideas, with the air regularly in the 3000ft range, making it difficult to get the Serv Auto Group Dragster to the other end too quickly. After qualifying in third place with an 8.00, the team faced off against Luke Nieuwhof, who with a 9.52 on a 9.51 dial-in was a little too slick for the Serv Auto GroupDragster 8.05 on an 8.00 dial-in. Despite the early exit, the team was satisfied with the data they were able to collect in preparation for the 38th Westernationals. “The air was not overly friendly all weekend, however running near our personal best speed, 166 mph, in the heat of the day was extremely encouraging”, Simon commented.
With the team conducting the routine maintenance to the Serv Auto Group Dragster in preparation for the biggest meeting on the Western Australian calendar, they are looking forward to taking on some of the best Modified racers in the country. “It is definitely an exciting prospect, when you consider the tough field we have here in WA, as well as the number of cars traveling to the Westernationals from over East, it won’t be an easy task, but we have confidence that the Serv Auto GroupDragster is up to the challenge”, Simon remarked with a grin.
The main aim for the Serv Auto GroupDragster and OMR is to bank some vital points in the 2008/09 Rocket Allstars Series in preparation for the long trip to Willowbank for the Winternationals in June.
Bring on Saturday 28th February!
November 2008 - Lekias Into The 7's
The Osborne Motors Racing team along with the great looking Serv Auto Group Dragster competed in the opening event at the Perth Motorplex hoping to start the season with a solid result in the local and modified category.
Osborne Motors Racing got off to a flying start with a personal best 7.96 seconds in the initial qualifying session.
"When the crew told me, it was a feeling of great achievement but also relief to have it out of the way early and focus on looking for the consistency required to go rounds in this hard category", team owner, leader and driver Simon Lekias remarked.
After the routine service maintenance between races, the Osborne Motors Racing team towed around for the second qualifier and again were happy with the performance lowering their personal best to 7.89 seconds over the quarter mile. This time would stand as the top qualifying time for the event.
The day ended for the team and the Serv Auto GroupDragster in a very close semi-final.
To top qualify and make it to the semi finals in the first event is a solid start, however we will be looking to build on that result over future meets.
With a number of tough cars still to come into the bracket, we will have hard work a head but know the Osborne Motors Racing crew and the Serv Auto GroupDragster will be up to the challenge", said Simon.
The Serv Auto GroupDragster is currently being prepared for the upcoming Golden State Championship at the Perth Motorplex.
